No, what's funny is that they are going to car hating Switzerland.

"Nein! It is too loud! Get it out! Get it out!"

To make it at least worthy of any reaction from Audi, they would have to sell a car or two on their home turf first. Beat them at their home game and then run your mouth, so to speak. I can't see that happening. Their dealership network is a sad joke that you can't even call a 'network' and their products aren't exactly what sells in Europe either.

While I admire their persistence, it's the persistance of somebody like Ralph Nader. Always running for Prez but never even getting enough votes to be taken seriously. Instead of focussing on stupid press stunts they should allow a few more Opel dealers to have their products on the forecourt. Maybe they would actually sell one? Right now, new Caddies are much rarer than Bentleys, Rolls' or Ferraris. And if you happen to actually see one of these rare birds, as I did once in the last months, the plates start with GG (for Groß-Gerau, GM's European hub) so it's a car owned by GM not an actual customer.

Oh, and a BMW shop in a Daimlerstrasse is somewhat funny. Although it's a common name for streets in industrial estates now, the one crossing it is most likely named Rudolf-Diesel-Strasse.

In the answers Johan gave to Jalopnik commenters(the ones who had time to find out and the ask the questions, since Jalonik announced him shortly before he started taking questions), he said that he won't go bullish in Europe until he fixes China, and not before he will have "the right tools for Europe", and he mentioned diesel engines, smaller engines, RHD configurations and possibly smaller offerings.

So until then, Cadillac can only do cheeky pictures like that and bet on the powerful V Series.

Still, I don't get this diesel obsession. Diesel cars are more expensive, louder, less flexible and some scientists suspect diesels fumes of causing various diseases. More than that, important European markets, like France or Britain are thinking to overtax and ultimately ban diesels, making Johan's plan and all the money it would require, useless.

Cadillac should bet on hybrids, just like Lexus.

And how come you have a Rudolf Diesel Strasse but not a Felix Wankel Strasse? I mean he was a bit of a Nazi, but his rotary engine is awesome.

There are quite a lot of Felix-Wankel-Strassen out there. Most of them being close to Daimler, and Diesel Strassen.

I don't get, or like the Diesels either. They come from the farmyard and they belong there, IMHO, but they do sell right now. Opel has a competitive 2.2 diesel, that wouldn't put Cadillac to shame. Why not slap it in the ATS for European markets only and actually sell something? right now, they are just throwing money into the furnace. No dealer network, no advertising, yet they have to pay for their headquarters and getting their products EU legal. Why?

This seems to me to be part of an ongoing problem within GM. Folks from Michigan not understanding/caring for/giving a fuck about the European market for decades. The introduction and withdrawal of Chevrolet is a symptom of that.

Still amazing how Audi made history at Le Mans with farm prop.

And why do you think Johan moved Cadillac to New York? A global mindset can be developed in a global city, not in the broken Detroit.
